When you think of the French music duo Daft Punk, the first thing that tends to spring to mind is the trademark helmets that they have worn since the 1990s. While some people think that the helmets are just a gimmick, Daft Punk have insisted that they are not, revealing the actual reason for the helmets.
The guys were talking to Rolling Stone, when Thomas Bangalter explained, "We're interested in the line between fiction and reality, creating these fictional personas that exist in real life. Kraftwerk and Ziggy Stardust and Kiss; people thought the helmets were marketing or something, but for us it was sci-fi glam."
Meanwhile, his Daft Punk partner Guy-Manuel de Homem-Christo added: "We're not performers, we're not models – it would not be enjoyable for humanity to see our features, but the robots are exciting to people."
Daft Punk released their fifth studio album earlier in the week, titled Random Access Memories, which has already spawned the hit single Get Lucky. Daft Punk composed the score for the hit movie Tron: Legacy and, with Tron 3 in the works, it will be interesting if they return for the sequel.
