Elizabeth Taylor is one of the most iconic celebrities of the past century, so it's not surprising to hear that personal items of her are actually expected to fetch more than $100,000 at an auction.
According to reports, Taylor's first wedding gown [when she got married to Conrad Hilton] is going to get auctioned off by Christie's at the end of this month. The dress is designed by MGM [the biggest studio back in the day] costume designer Helen Rose which reportedly took 15 people three months to make. Rose also created Grace Kelly's famous wedding gown, which inspired many to follow suit.
The dress is from Taylor's first wedding to Conrad Hilton in 1950, when Taylor was just 18 years old and a year away from her first Oscar nomination. She was already a rising star, but she wasn't yet the household name that she would soon become.
Right now, the sale price is $73,000, but it's expected to be auctioned off for more than $100,000. That being said, Elizabeth Taylor got married eight times over the course of her lifetime, so there'll be plenty of chances of future wedding dress offerings at auctions. However, her most famous marriage was definitely to Richard Burton, and the wedding dress that Liz wore during that wedding might go for a lot more than $100,000.
