It is hard to imagine that there is anybody out there that has not seen the great movie Forrest Gump, which saw Tom Hanks in the titular role, while Gary Sinise played the memorable Lt. Dan. Now, Gary Sinise plays in the Lt. Dan Band and the Highland Park High School graduate is finally taking the band home, by playing at Ravinia.
Sinise explained, "I’ve wanted to play at Ravinia for a long time. I worked on the ground crew, raking leaves, taking out the garbage. After ‘Forrest Gump’ I did some USO tours as an actor. I’d be introduced as Lt. Dan. I’d greet the troops, sign autographs, that sort of thing.”
He added, “Instead of just shaking hands, I thought they would like some music. So we began taking the band on our tours. We’ve been to Afghanistan several times, and at least half a dozen times to Iraq. After Ravinia we’re going again to Okinawa, Japan."
Gary Sinise and the Lt. Dan Band will play Ravinia on June 13 and Ravinia Festival’s CEO, Welz Kauffman is expected it to be a huge hit, saying, "I have a feeling he’s going to own this place on June 13.” As for his acting career, Gary Sinise continues to play the role of Mac Taylor in CSI: NY.
