After the season ended, Magic point guard Jameer Nelson said that he hopes his role will be defined for the new season. The Magic finished with the worst record in the NBA this season and got the number two pick in next season's draft lottery which promises to secure the team a brighter future ahead. Nelson is hoping to have a key role within the squad and wants to make sure the team is on the same mindset as he is.
The moves Orlando makes will define Nelson's role within the team. If the team decides to draft a point guard with the #2 pick Nelson's future with the franchise will be in doubt. Without Nelson on the team there really are no solid point guards with experience for the Magic in the coming season.
He has averaged 14.7 points, 3.7 rebounds and 7.4 assists per game for the Magic this year. After Dwight Howard was traded to the Lakers the team was never able to find their identity and won only 20 games this season, the worst record in the league. Nelson spent his entire nine year career with the Magic and the numbers he posted this season were the best of his career by far. The player wasn't satisfied with the team missing out on the playoffs but he is hoping Orlando will include him in their rebuilding plans.
It's up to the Magic to decide whether or not they want to keep their point guard or not.
