Mariah Carey performed during the finale of American Idol last night, and her medley of hit seemed to garner positive reactions from the fans. However, Twitter was soon ablaze with fans commenting on how they believed that Mariah lip-synched her way through her set, and that she didn't really sing live.
One example of such a tweet was, "Mariah Carey, if you are going to lip sync on American Idol, at least attempt to make it look real. Or don't perform on behalf of America."
However, her rep has hit out against the rumors, and stated, "She ABSOLUTELY DID NOT lip-sync. She performed LIVE in front of several thousands of people!!!! (and did it 3 times!!)." According to the rep, Mariah sang to a pre-recorded track and performed alongside a 40-person choir. You can tell that her reps feel very strongly about these rumors, because they again added, "No LIP-SYNCING whatsoever! She did 3 takes and thrilled the crowd with singing little songs in between that we're NOT part of her medley."
Fox refused to comment about audio issues on the network's end, which could explain why so many fans assumed that Mariah was lip-synching. However, since her reps took to such great pains to correct these rumors, it really does look like Mariah Carey was singing live.
