There were a lot of disappointed fans, when it was announced that Matt Damon would not be returning for the fourth instalment of the Bourne franchise, which led to Jeremy Renner taking over for the distinctly average The Bourne Supremacy. Fans feel that The Bourne Supremacy was not really a Bourne movie, as it did not have Matt Damon involved, although it did leave the door open to a return.
Over the past few years, Matt Damon has insisted that the only way he would ever return to the Bourne franchise, would be if director Paul Greengrass also agreed to return to the project. Unfortunately, Paul Greengrass has stated on a number of occasions that he does not feel that there is any creative story left to the Bourne franchise, killing off any chance of a return for him, or Matt Damon.
However, it has now been claimed that they have come up with a new idea that they feel is well worth exploring and Universal are now working hard to get Paul Greengrass and Matt Damon on board for Bourne 5. It has been reported that Universal want Paul to write and direct Bourne 5, with Matt Damon returning to his role as Jason Bourne.
There were plans for a sequel to The Bourne Legacy, with Jeremy Renner returning, while Justin Lin is signed on to direct but, if Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass were to return, that project would be put on hold and possibly even scrapped. There have even been some people suggesting that we could see a Bourne movie with both Jeremy Renner and Matt Damon on board, although we can't see that happening.
Are you excited about the prospect of Matt Damon and Paul Greengrass returning for Bourne 5?
