We had to wait almost 30 years between the first Tron movie and the sequel Tron: Legacy but the wait was certainly worth it, as we got a visually fantastic movie in 2010. Following the success of Tron: Legacy, which grossed almost $400m, it was expected that we would definitely get a Tron 3 and that we would not have to wait too long for the new movie to arrive.
Well, it has been five years now since Tron: Legacy hit the big screen and, just a few weeks back, it was claimed that both Olivia Wilde and Garrett Hedlund had signed on to star in Tron 3. However, it has now been confirmed that neither of them will star in Tron 3, as Disney have now decided to pull the plug on the movie.
SInce the news of Tron 3 being cancelled broke, Olivia Wilde has taken to her official Twitter account to assure the fans that it is not all bad, "Tron fans! Don't trip. Now I don't have to live on seaweed juice and tofu dust for 6 months to fit into a rubber suit. 🍝🍻😎" she tweeted. That must be the only possible positive that anyone can take from the news.
So it looks like we will not be getting a Tron 3 movie any time soon but we would not rule out that we will not see the film hit the big screen in the future. After all, there was 28 years between Tron and Tron: Legacy but the sequel still got made, so never say never.
What do you think about Tron 3 getting cancelled?
