While there were a lot of people quick to praise and congratulate Liam Payne for landing his first ever solo record deal, it seems there is one person who was less than impressed. Liam signed his deal with record label Capitol, who are a rival of Syco, which has clearly not gone down too well with Simon Cowell. While Simon has tried to shrug it off, it is clear to see he is disappointed by the decision.
Cowell was chatting to the guys over at Entertainment Tonight, when he said, "I was slightly surprised to read that Liam signed to another label. I wasn't expecting it. But you know, that happens."
However, during a separate interview with The Sun, Simon Cowell seemed a lot more critical of Liam Payne for choosing to go solo with a different record label. Simon was asked about the new contract, when he chose not to directly answer the question but instead praised the other three members of One Direction.
Cowell said, "We’re in touch with them all. The great thing about all these boys – well not all of them but most of them – they are incredibly loyal and you don’t always expect that... Niall, Harry, Louis – amazing." Ouch!!
So what will this mean for the relationship between Liam Payne and Simon Cowell when One Direction do finally get back together? Could a fall out between the pair result in a permanent split for the boyband? We are just going to have to wait and see.
