There has been quite a lot of talk recently about the cast for the new Marvel movie Doctor Strange, with a number of different little rumours going around as to who we can expect to see in the film. One of the biggest rumours doing the rounds of late, was that we would see the actress Tilda Swinton taking on the role of The Ancient One in Doctor Strange.
Well, after plenty of speculation about the possibility of seeing Tilda Swinton as The Ancient One in Doctor Strange, it has finally been confirmed that the actress has officially been cast in the role. Tilda has opened up about just how excited she is to be playing such a fantastic character in such an exciting movie, admitting that she has been a Marvel fan for quite some time.
Swinton explained, "We’re so far in talks that we’re not talking any more [laughs]. It’s done. I just really liked the premise of this and the idea of playing this character. I’m a Marvel fan and I think this particular world that Doctor Strange goes into is really, really, really exciting. I’m really interested as both an actor and a fan to see what’s done in this particular world."
She added, "It’s all about creativity. It’s not about everything exploding at the end. It’s about something very different. The idea of playing The Ancient One is really just too tickling. I can’t say no to that!"
That means we will get to see Tilda Swinton sharing the big screen with Benedict Cumberbatch, who is playing Dr. Stephen Strange, while Chiwetel Ejiofor is expected to play Baron Mordo in the film. Doctor Strange will be directed by Scott Derrickson and is due to open on October 28, 2016 in the UK and November 4, 2016 in the US.
