When legendary film maker Quentin Tarantino comes a knocking, offering you the role of a lifetime, it is very rare that you will find an actor or actress who will turn down the chance to work with the star. However, Hollywood veteran Will Smith was offered the chance to play the lead role in the hit movie Django Unchained but decided to turn down the role. That role then went to Oscar-winning actor Jamie Foxx, who put in a fantastic performance in a brilliant film and Will has now revealed why he chose not to take on the project.
Smith explained, "It was about the creative direction of the story. To me, it's as perfect a story as you could ever want: a guy that learns how to kill to retrieve his wife that has been taken as a slave. That idea is perfect. And it was just that Quentin and I couldn't see (eye to eye). I wanted to make the greatest love story that African-Americans had ever seen."
He added, "I wanted to make that movie so badly, but I felt the only way was, it had to be a love story, not a vengeance story. I don't believe in violence as the reaction to violence. So when I'm looking at that, it's like, 'No, no, no. It has to be for love'. Violence begets violence. So I just couldn't connect to violence being the answer. Love had to be the answer."
While Will Smith missed out and appearing in Django Unchained, he still has plenty more movie projects coming our way. The one which definitely has fans most excited, is his role as Deadshot in the Suicide Squad movie, which will hit the big screen on August 5, 2016 in both the US and the UK.
