It was quite surprising when it was announced that Zayn Malik had decided to quit One Direction, as they were the biggest boyband on the planet at the time and it was hard to see how he was going to do any better. However, since then, the rest of the One Direction boys have also decided to take a break from the band, while Zayn has been enjoying his time as a solo artist.
As well as getting some other stars in to work with him on some of her own new music, Zayn Malik has also been asked to collaborate with people on some of their tracks. M.I.A. has now revealed how she wanted to work with Zayn on her new track Freedun, which comes from her new album AIM, with the star admitting that she wanted to write a song for Malik.
M.I.A. was chatting to Entertainment Weekly, when she said, "We just basically did it while I was here, because I've been here for a week-and-a-half. We've just been going back and forth on, you know, WhatsApp. We have the same publishers and they wanted me to demo some songs for Zayn."
She added, "Before I started writing properly my own stuff [for 'AIM'], I was thinking maybe I'll write for other people instead. I really wanted to write a song for Zayn ... We had a couple people in common. And that's how it came about. I didn't really approach him for my own record until later on. First, I thought I wanted to try writing a song for him."
We cannot wait to hear what the new M.I.A. songs sound like, especially if she has some more big name collaborations to share.
