The Vaccines were announced earlier this week as one of the nominees in the category of the Best Breakthrough Act at this year’s Brit Awards and the boys are delighted at the recognition. Frontman Justin Young has revealed that, while they still consider themselves rock ‘n’ roll, they are proud to receive some mainstream recognition for a commercial award ceremony.
Young explained, "It's quite surreal really. Admittedly we are a pop band, but we're still rock 'n' roll. We're from an alternative background, so it's nice to be recognised in a mainstream, commercial awards ceremony." He then went on to discuss the fact that Laura Marling won the Best Female Award last year and was up for it again this year.
Justin added, "It really shocked me when Laura won last year, but when I saw that she was nominated again this year, I was like, 'That's awesome', it wasn't just a token thing last year." The Brit Awards nominations were announced earlier this week, with Ed Sheeran leading the way with 4 nominations. The Brit Awards are set to take place at the O2 Arena on February 27.
