When it was announced that Mark Wahlberg was going to star in a movie about the life of boxer Micky Ward, there were not exactly many people jumping up and down about it, expecting it to be such a hugely impressive project. However, when The Fighter was released in 2010, the movie went of to become a huge hit both at the box office, making more than five times it budget, and with the fans and critics, being nominated for seven Oscars and winning two of them.

Filming The Fighter
It was no surprise then that talk quickly turned to the possibility of a sequel to The Fighter being made and fans were eager to see the movie happen. There have been a lot of rumours about the progress of The Fighter 2 and those involved in the first movie have teased the possibility of the movie happening from time to time but we have not heard anything about the project for quite a while now.
Mark Wahlberg previously spoke about The Fighter 2 focusing on the trilogy of fights between Micky Ward and Arturo Gatti, which would certainly make for a great film, but there does not seem to have been any real progress on the project for quite some time. Meanwhile, Mark has become a hugely in demand star, with a whole host of projects lined up and it is hard to see where he would fit the movie in.

Mark Wahlberg played Micky Ward
With that said, there would no doubt still be plenty of interest from the fans in The Fighter 2 and we are sure that writer Scott Silver would be able to adapt the Micky Ward v Arturo Gatti trilogy into a great screenplay. Unfortunately though, it looks like we will have a very long wait for The Fighter 2, that is if we even get the movie at all.
